Thread Starter
I have a problem with my cpu, it seems when under stress it a squealing sound comes from it. I was wondering if its anything to be worried about and why is it happening? it never used to do this.

thx in advanced

It's more likely to be your powersupply or motherboard than your CPU. It's perfectly fine, but it usually indicates that it is kinda overstressing it, so you might get a lower MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure)

You more than likely have a whining capacitor. This is basically where it vibrates at a very high speed which creates the high pitches squeal. It's nothing to worry about really, it's just annoying.

That probably is your fan firing up when you cpu goes under some load. Clean your fan, dust off the heat sink.

And it should just be said that the vibrations are caused by heat, and not anything else.

A lot of the time, a cpu fan will kick it up a notch when under load. The same goes for stock video card fans, as they have fixed fan percentages for different temperatures. My guess is that, when your cpu goes under load, the temps rise, and so does the fan on the heat sink. So the fan is what is really squeaking, not the processor. This could be due to the fan getting loose or just the bearings running thin.

You will probably need a new heat sink and fan to make it stop, but you can try to take it off, clean it, then remount it, just in case to save you from buying a new one.

Edit:Woah, I'm slow.
