I dropped once a 4GB Maxtor, back in the day they were pretty expensive. I've tried to put it back on, but it made a high pitch drill sound It made a good lab rat though, that was the first time I've opened a hard drive.

Even on performance mode, my Samsung is still pretty quiet, and this came with a Dell so that is saying something. No reliability issues at all and they perform quite well. Dell has really picked up their game and started using reliable parts while still keeping costs low.

I sell the magnets to auto shops around the sound. $10 a pair and I can't seem to have enough. They want more!!

I wish I kept them here I can't find anybody to pay for them. I liked the mirror finish on the platters though.

Thanks for the votes guys, I'd like to say I've made up my mind, but the votes are spread too even. My wife says the Seagate I have now, a 7200.10, is quiet enough... I guess one more for the perpendiculars.

For me it's about the performance. the 7200.9 meh the 7200.10 BOOOYAH

The WD Cavs I have (about 5) are all fine--just not spectacularily fast. They seem pretty quiet too.
