Vadim Cetus R600

here in the UK we have a pc magazine called custom pc it benches all the latest hardware and software ect,now the one that interested me is the new Vadim Cetus R600 (look at attachment) it features a C2D E6600 same as me now they claim its been clocked to a massive 3.6ghz with a even bigger shock 1.60vcore mine is @3.4ghz with a 1.425vcore. What i am getting at is so many threads have i read were people state that just because you have good temps doesnt mean overvolting wont slowly kill your cpu, i have great temps because i share the vadims water cooler the Swift tech apogee and my idle temps at my overclock are 24-26c and my full load are 42-45c.So what i am saying is that if some company is going to retail a high end pc at £2,843.13 inc vat would they risk punters sending them back in 12months time because the cpu in there systems are dead or do they know something i dont but for me personly i would like to know if overvolting is a myth or a fact.

cheers kingy hope this can add to the C2D overvolting research

Hmmm, interesting stuff. I guess what you're saying makes sense, but your assessment relies on the assumption that companies don't make mistakes with this kind of thing... Companies are just collections of people, essentially, and people are fallible...

Still, I agree that the article does appear to imply the relative safety of running 1.6v through a Conroe without much ill effect... Although I'd be a bit reluctant to do it to mine, I have to say. What's the warranty on that system? How long are they willing to bet the CPU will last under those conditions?

Highly-Annoyed

It won't kill it in 12 months... more like 4 years of 24/7 use at that heavy an overvolt.

how do people know that it will be 4 years? and not 14 months if it was 4 years i would do it because i am sure i will have upgraded mt cpu by then i read a post on a reply to me asking about safe vcore's and someone said they had there C2D overvolted crazy and after a while there system did strange things reboots crashes all because they said the overvolted to much

Because CPU's just don't die like that.

Hmmm, yeah, the whole "safe" v-core level is still (imo) a matter of some contention.

The honest answer is that nobody (at least nobody on this forum afaik) knows for sure what a "safe" max is or how long your CPU will last with over-volting. For a long while, most people were saying to keep the voltage at or below 1.45v, but 1.5v is only about 11% more than stock for C2D, which isn't a huge amount I guess.

In the past, I've always tried to keep extra voltage below the +10% level on other CPUs, but as to if that is "safe" or how much it decreases life-span, idk...

I guess it just comes down to a personal choice as to what risk you perceive there to be and if you're willing to take it. Giving your CPU +7% v-core to get a 30% o/c seems reasonable to me, but giving +11% just to go to 33% doesn't. I can get my CPU to 3.6GHz with +15% extra v-core, but I wouldn't run it there for longer than SuperPI takes to run and print-screen .
