Ratio of 15:16?

Ok, I have read and reread the Intel Memory guide, good job by the way, and I still have a question. I was trying to overclock my buddies comp the other day. He has the same mobo as me(P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe), same chip(E6700), heck he liked my case so much he went and bought it also... BUT he had a dell beforehand and took the DDR2-533 from that and is using it in his current setup. I got a stable OC of 3.2GHz but his ratio was 15:16 with timings of 5-6-6-16. This of course was using the "OC profile" that comes on the board. I've never seen a ratio like that before and am curious about getting tighter timings. I'm asking here first because I don't want to fry his RAM. Also, if I go for tighter timings that means possibly upping voltage correct? Which of course generates more heat? Thanks for the input beforehand!!

stock dell ram is probably pretty junky.
I'd go for some G.skill hz's they are around a 100 bucks last time i checked and OC like mofos.
As far as getting tighter timings... Most ppl will probably say timings don't matter on Intel systems but u might be able to @ least get a higher mem clock by adding .1 or .2 volts. I'd geuss the stock V on the RAM is 1.8, so 2.0 is probably safe(please correct me if i'm wrong guys). if some how you can get then to 667 that might be good. so 1:1 mem divider and 333 FSB should yield 3.3ghz and DDR2 666/667, right? the e6700 has a 10x multi if i remember right. You might have to raise the voltage a little on the e6700 but even on stock cooling it might, might, be tolerable. I still would suggest a good aftermarket cooler if you don't already have one

BTW, welcome to overclock.net

Ballistix are much much cheaper on neweeg($60 after MIR), and perform on par mostly with the HZs.

cool. my G.Skill PKs are crap OC'rs. but my CPU is a terrible OC'r too so idk...\\

side by side of the two: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

the HZs have gone up in price since the last time i looked still really cheap. 129.99 w/o rebate. the HZs operate at a lower stock voltage than the ballistix so i'd assume the HZs really have more head room and they have for sure the highly acclaimed micron D9 chips...

Forgot to mention, the ram is OC'ed to 341.2 according to CPUZ. Since it's DDR2 that means 682.4. Weird number I know. Don't ask. haha
