Cant move mouse or anything...Windows XP Pro

Thread Starter
I have a computer I am working on but all I can get to is the user login screen and from there I cant move anything. I have tried it in multiple computers with the same result. When I ran knoppix (on the original hardware)I could only move the mouse for a few seconds between the command prompt screen and the when the desktop boots up. I have no idea what the problem is, the keyboard works because I can use bios and type just no mouse. Its as if the hardware of screwed up XP Pro and now it cant use a mouse either. I have no ideas left.
Thx
+rep for any1 who can solve this sucker's problem

I had a similiar problem something was starting to be wrong with my mobo ( actually my fix was to prop a old gameboy game behind the corner of the mobo as it would then work just fine ) The problem I was having though was that the mouse would work sometimes and not others. I still really don't know what the problem was but you can try using a usb mouse if your using a ps2 mouse and vice versa and make sure you try alot of different usb ports. Hopefully it will work for you.

also I have a computer with a currupt OS and I need to reinstall, problem is the guy who gave it to me doesn't have the coa. It was custom built by somebody else years ago and I can't do anything with the hard drive because of a currupt OS (read my other post) and I was sondering if I could find the coa number somewhere on the harddrive maybe in the system files or something. If I get the coa I can maybe get a replacement disk right?
is there a way to see the coa without booting from the OS so I can maybe get a replacement disk?

A bad mouse isn't gonna screw up an XP install.

ALT+SHIFT+NUM LOCK should turn on Mouse Keys so you can use the number pad as a mouse.
