anyone know what else I can do to improve performance?

Thread Starter
i'm overclocked on my gpu 400/250 from 350/250, and I have a stock HP. I just want a little more so I can play oblivion with just a couple more frames. It's dangerousley low on graphics as it is.

Another GB of RAM and a new video card would make a world of difference.

Oblivion isn't ever gonna like your 6200 much, but one of those could help it at least run acceptably. You'll still have to put it on pretty low settings however.

The first link should be very helpful to anyone running Oblivion Increases frames by quite a bit on my 8800GTX with no quality loss.

7600GS $87 after MIR

7600GT $75 after MIT

6600GT $49 after MIR

I don't know much about the 1600 series ATI but there are a dungh in the 70ish range too.

The "Open Box" "OEM" arew new bulk with usually no extras, just the card and may behoove you to look through those too for extra savings

I have an HP Pavilion a1640a. I upgraded the intergrated video card with a Gforce 8600 gt 256 ddr3. The original memory was ddr2 667 mhz and i bought 2 gigs of Corsair ddr2 800 memory. The vidoe card cost me about 150$ when it came out you can probably get it now for about 120$ if you look hard enough. The memory was on special at Micro Center for 120$ with a rebate.
After rebate it comes out to about 30$. The mother board on my hp unit is decent it is a Asus p5a. I also bought a e6500 cpu for this computer for 140$.
Still debating weather to start a third comp with it. I bought all this in a span of about 8 month. I running the CSS video stress test with settings at high and getting 188fps. Oh dont forget to update your video drivers. I was origanally doing 150fps before the video driver update.

Good luck
