Intel Max Spec Measures T_junction or T_case? - Page 3

So I should stop trying for a higher OC. The vcore is set perfect right now (well not perfect, but at the lowest the CPU can handle)

Am I at the top of my overclock?

What should I do, go or stop?

You are NOT screwed at all..

Look at your highest reading CoreTemp.95.. 66C under 100% load.. That is ok man.. CoreTemp reads DTS and DTS is hotter than T_case.. So I think you are just fine if CoreTemp is correctly reading your DTS..

I have to say your 4400 seems to be yet another CPU that we have to figure out temp readings for.. I am wondering why your readings are so weird.. I'll look around for info on 4400's and see what others are saying..

Until you came along I was sure of my "theory" about C2D temps.. But this CPU really confuses me.. I'm sure there is an reason..

I know, I'll rip it out, throw it on a stick, and use it for a **** back-scratch.

Arg, I'm soooooo sick of doing research. Maybe I'll just run it at 2.8. lol

Sorry you have to hear me cry............................................... wahawhahahawhwahwhwahwah

it is odd for 3 different progs to contradict each other.
but i personally woudlnt be comfortable running at 66C max.
but im just very optimistic. 70's is where you should worry.
it also depends on your CPU stepping and case cooling.
for example, if you only have 1x80mm fan. that wont cool everything as well as 4x120mm + water cooling, and will maintain a higher temp.

see where im coming from?

highest reading.
meaning, nothing will (realistically) be above that.
so it may be below.
the only other way to tell is to get thermal probes, and that means more expence
so just take your highest temps.
fiddle with your setup i.e more intake that exhaust, to keep cold air in.
stuff like that.

Right around 61C is what Intel states as the Max for most C2D's... Not that staying as low as possible is a bad idea.. Everyone should stay as low as possible.. However, 61C load is really all that hot for a CPU.. Remember 55C idle Celerons?

Yes, 3 different results from various programs is odd.. Only thing I can think is that those programs were last updated before the 4400 was released.. That could have a little to do with it..

Your concerns for high temps, I dont think are needed... Example: His 66C reading was his DTS reading.. No one knows how far the DTS can be pushed.. Intel gives us the T_case max and Not a DTS max... 66C DTS means he is probably around 59C-60C T_case...Again under Intel's Max temp.. But that has everything to do with whether or not he is getting an accurate DTS reading..

EDIT::

They will only tell you to use an INTEL brand motherboard and use their special software to read temps.. You do no have an intel brand motherboard...

Then they will give you web addresses that have information about the C2D's and thermal information, but nothing really states anything solid... End result from Intel is, if you don't use an Intel brand motherboard you are S.O.L... Or you are like me and you have to spend hours figuring and testing to get a 1-3C idea of your true temps..lol

well, I'm calling intel right now. first question will be what temp monitor should I use. (lol sounds like a n00b)

Post up, if you want me to ask anything!

EDIT: ohh, just saw your post. dangit

IDK, I still may try. Failure is the first stepping stone to success! lol *thanks gramps*
