If you wait until Jul 22nd you can get a Q6600 quad core for approx $265 (that is a rough guess according to sources). I would look into the P35 intel chipset. It is supposed to be rock solid!

Its more for the build/oc enjoyment rather than gamin do use pc as media center so a little of this an that, going to use existing hardware- mirage case- ocz psu- water cooling setup etc- x1950pro. Am a little impatient when i decide to buy would make sense to wait for price drops though that then limits my return on existing setup sal. swings and round abouts

Why don't you just OC (to its limits) that 165?

If you had a single core CPU maybe I'd see the reason why you'd need a C2D but, I see no reason for you to move to the dark side of the force.

Before I got my C2D I had a P4 650, so don't bother IMO.

well my 165 is oc'd to its stable limit 2.7, its water cooled iv lapped it maybe with some real pain staking tweaking i could get 2.75 stable. it isn't the best stepping. And prior to getting this opty setup together i did want to go conroe though at time couldn't afford.
