Conroe Build? - Page 2

+1
Only thing I would change is maybe get this CPU block instead
Both are great performers, however, I think the D-Tek has a bit of an edge over the Swiftech

I would change the RAM to Ballistix

Seeing as you are doing a complete upgrade(minus GPU), the nice MIR will save you a lot of dough.

For The Last Time:

MSRP = $266USD

Retail = $300+

I would get an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2x1GB of G. Skill DDR2-800 HZ Ram, and an Intel Bad Axe 2 975X Motherboard (or Asus P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP P35 Board).

Great Overclocking Hardware + Working OS + Fast Graphics Card = Amazing FPS and Stability. My 7900GTX is pretty equal to your X1900XT(X) and I run World of Warcraft, Doom 3, F.E.A.R., Dawn of War, Counter-Strike: Source, Need For Speed: Carbon, and much more maxed out.

agreed..they are the cheapest available D9 Ic's around. They will easily do 1000+mhz...same as the G.Skill HZ kit linked earlier...just cheaper.

I would also consider the P5K instead of the deluxe model...it is almost 100$ cheaper and has all of the same OC goodness to it. There are a few high-end options that might benefit the Deluxe...but for 100$..? I have had no problem hitting 530mhz FSB using my e6700 on that mobo...and have done 450mhz FSB using my Q6600 so far.

Its hard to find a better performing cpu block for less than the apogee though...got me there!

As far as the e6600 goes...the e6750 is cheaper and faster + runs at 1333mhz FSB...not 1066mhz. Seems like a bad call to make.

Thread Starter
if you could please link me up to the cpu via newegg; i'd appreciate it!

lets keep the discussion going, i wanna buy the best for my money. I'll be waiting until the 22nd to buy anything. I also have about $800 to spend.

Hopefully that should be able to get me good enough stuff eh?

LINKS PLEASE!

but the q6600 quad core factor is much higher then the 6750's also the 66 is far higher on the badass scale

One thing that Intel didn't reveal to bit-tech before the launch was the expected retail price of the Core 2 Duo E6750. However, DailyTech has come up trumps with what looks to be the chip's 1000-unit tray pricing, which will reportedly come into effect on July 22nd.

The site's information matches up with previous rumours, which suggested that the Core 2 Duo E6850 would ship for $266.

Arguably the biggest surprise is the Core 2 Duo E6750's unit price of $183 - that is the price that Intel currently ships the Core 2 Duo E6420 and E6400 for. A quick look on bit-tech's shopping engine reveals that the Core 2 Duo E6420 is selling for as little as £112.78 (inc VAT) in the UK or $185 (ex. Tax) in the US.
the cpu is not out yet...heres the links for pricing info and hardware testing.

review here!

P5k mobo 149.99$

No doubt about the Q6600..I got one! But paying more for a slower cpu and slower FSB...I wont do. I am confident that with the P35 mobo..the e6750 will out-shine a slower e6600 no problem.

Slower...more $$..not for me. I care nothing for the e6600's track record...there is a newer faster cpu...and I will OC it further! Performance at a lower premium!

well, I got my PC for about $1400 (cpu is not an e6600, but getting one with it will more or less leave the price the same).. add a little bit for a water cpu socket, take off about $150 for the import fees they sometimes push in in Israel.. and voila ;e
