Dark Alex can be considered a grey-hat since his hacks tend to help the customers while not particularly helping SONY out...

Hackers find bugs/problems in software and either fix them or exploit them. (or just plain make the software better) -- CRACKERS tend to be 'evil' and exploit the bugs/problems in software for profit or personal gain.

To call a hacker a 'menace' is to discredit hundreds of thousands of software engineers (and software reverse-engineers). Without hackers half of the internet would not be what it is today. Ever heard of PHP-Nuke? -- should read up on it someday.
that is true, but remember dark alex didnt do hacking just to f**k over sony, he did it for a reason to open up more choices for us to use with the psp...im not sayin ur wrong but just saying that u are right. just to point out why he did it...

oh and yea there are asses out there that do trojans and viruses for no reason, see there are good and ass hackers

Just being random here:

The world needs hackers. Hackers are the original modders, like Woz. Hackers make companies make products bigger and better.

*I* am saying that Dark_AleX did a *great* thing. Intellectual property rights have been so twisted from their original intent as to make them morally invalid in many cases. This guy is not hurting Sony one bit. Modded console systems and region free DVD players are no different than our PC's. We pay for the hardware, we should be able to change it to suit our uses for it, hardware, software, or both. And for those individuals who stumble onto a winning combination of changes and wish to buy several of the item to change and resell then are no different than any other retailer. Maybe instead the originating company should adopt the innovation and make it their own if it's not already patented. Or maybe they should get rid of the type-A *******s running the place and just be glad people are buying the thing, instead of demanding total and complete control on a permanent basis(looking at you Apple, Sony, Microsoft, etc.). We bought the crap, leave us alone.

the only reason to hate sony's firmware is because you can't play your own homemade ps1-2-psp rips, and downloaded psp game rips....otherwise there is nothing wrong with it. I do use custom and won't be changing anytime soon until i get the new psp that is rumored and i will keep that one original firm and my current one OE. I foresee the PSP catching up to the DS(in monthly sales, not overall sales) once Syphon Filter 2 comes out, Socom 3, God of War, etc...Also GPS, Eyetoy and so on....Its going to be an awesome christmas for Sony if they can drop the PS3 price a lil bit with all of it's games coming also....
