Audi's first ASUS board: P5K Deluxe (Pics Inside)

Arrived today. Must'a been HOT in the UPS truck. Either that, or the driver was using my board because it's STILL warm. After all the great reviews and recommending them to people myself, I decided to take my own advice!

Asus Packaging is... meh. Gigabyte's is better!

Extra USB + Firewire 400 Breakout. Gutsy. Gigabyte's P35 boards come with an e-Sata Breakout and I have to say... I prefer that to USB + Firewire breakout:

The SouthSide of the board. Dark and Mysterious:

Branded: Lifestyle. I don't like the SATA port placement. Gigabyte's was better and offered 6- Sata and 2 Pata in a cluster. Asus's extra two Sata's are on the back of the board. Would rather have them all right there and the breakout:

P5K Deluxe:

Northland o'the board. Mad Copper:

Reapplying paste is going to be utter hell:

And the WiFi receiver. Yeah... like I'm going to use WiFi on my Desktop. Wired for life:

OVERALL: I think the Gigabyte P35 DS3P Has the better board layout. All SATA ports are accessible without interfering with GPU slots. The breakout option is better than Firewire + USB 2.0 option considering there's like four USB ports already available. I think one less PCI-e x 1 slot than the Gigabyte board as well.

IDE on the Gigabyte and this board is an odd place.

No PS/2 port on the ASUS. Way to assume!

And, they could've kept the WiFi and saved me thirty to forty dollars, y'know?

It's about performance, though. And, if it's going to perform well, then I'll get over it.

I've heard BAD things about the red SATA cables that came with this... and I'm going to be using my Yellow Gigabye Cables instead.

Eep I forgot to take a picture of the back of the board. Noticed that there were chips on the BACK instead of the front. Err.

Weird.

Pook: Nikon D70 w/ Nikon Nikkor 105mm Prime, Nikon 17-80mm SLR AI AFZooom, and Tamron 17-50mm AI AF Zoom.

Will check the max FSB as soon as I clean up my trashed room! DoH!

nitteo: LOL Yeah I guess it does sound like complaining. I'm just used to Gigabyte's awesome board layout. However, hoping to get much better results as far as performance goes.

I use a D200 at work. VERY sturdy camera, man. Gotta love how it feels in your palms. Sechs.

We will see if you get as lost in a Asus Bios as I do in a Gigabyte Bios. The can be quite different. Looking forward to some results.
