iPhone actually costs $2038.76 - Page 3

The iPhone itself doesn't cost $2000...you get minutes and texts included in that.

In my first month on a $70 contract I spent the equalivant of $430 credit

Over the last week, you and you alone have posted mounds of this crap about the iPhone...big deal. Many people with smartphones/PDA's or just nice cell phones have to pay similar fees for websurfing.

The iPhone itself may be overpriced, but $59.99/mo is not bad

You know, now that I think about it, my phone is almost as good as an iphone. I mean, I have a 2 gig micro sd card in it full of music, it has a 1.3 MP camera (1280x1024, not cell-phone pics), it can browse the web and has ev-do broadband capabilities. It was 50$ with a contract and I get 2000minutes a month for 79.99. The iphone brings pretty to the table, but wouldn't increase my functionality.

Someone is a huge n00b at accounting/economics/finance.....

He didn't account for interest. You can't just take $59.99 and multiply it by 24 since the money spent in the future is worth less now.

Plus there are rollover minutes so in theory the minutes you have spare at the end of two years can continue to pay out after the fixed contract.
Once again...

Actual cost of the phone... since the writer of the article does not know enough math:

The cost of the 24 month phone plans is $1353.50 projecting the $59.99 price does not change and you can get a 6% interest rate.

Therefore the actual cost of the phone and plan is $1952.50 using present value.
