I think I messed up.

So...

My mobo died on me after a month of use so I decided to RMA it via newegg. I started to disconnect everything and everything went fine. I removed the mobo from the case and then tried to take the hsf off. I took off the clamps holding it down, but it wouldn't come off. I tried the twist and pull method but it didn't work either. So being as gentle as possible i pulled the hsf off but then i noticed that the processor was still attached to it. I tried getting the processor off, but it is super stuck and won't budge a bit.

I just want to know:
1. if i killed my processor?

2. if I can get my processor off the hsf?

3. if I can put it into my new mobo as is? There's a little lever on the mobo that is usually in the up position in order to seat the processor. Unfortunately, I can't put the leverr up and put the whold hsf/processor down as it is too large to do so.

I am using a socket 754 AMD with the Alpine 64 hsf.

Help please!!!

I should be okay if you didn't bend any pins. Take a razor and gently try to cut/pry the HSF off the CPU. BE CAREFUL!!!!! Re-apply AS5 or "other thermal grease".

DO NOT PRY IT OFF. Gently twist, being careful not to bend the pins.

If a razor somehow doesn't work, perhaps try some dental floss. Same idea as the razor, basically.

Hope this helps!

Sweet thanks guys, I will try a razor and let you know how it goes. Also, I looked at the pins and they are all straight, so it think I got lucky.
