I've installed it through wine, It really lags and seems quite buggy through wine. I suggest you keep playing bf2 on windows.

Yeah, that's kinda the impression I'm getting...too bad though, it would've been nice to not have to boot back and fourth every time I want to play. Ahhh such is life with games using DirectX, why couldn't they all use OpenGL.

Since I've already got wine installed I decided to try and install BF2 using it first, and then if that fails : uninstall wine, and compile and install cedega.

The installation went smoothly for the most part, although it took much longer to install than on XP. I think wine is running my optical drive at a slower speed than it should be. My USB headset was not detected during the VOIP test, but thats not a big deal (yet), and it hung with a blank white window on the DX9 install. I killed that window, and it tried DX9 again, I killed that and the install completed more or less successfully. I copied the "d3dx9_24.dll" and "d3dx9_25.dll" files from my XP install over to the system32 folder for wine.

Now to see if it works. I ran wine "bf2.exe +fullscreen 0 +szx 800 +szy 600" and the splashscreen appeared and then I got this error :

Look at all of the ok/cancel options I get
Clicking on any of them returns me to my desktop with no BF2.

I've tried fullscreen and different resolutions but still no go.
800 x 600 (and many other resolutions) are in my xorg.conf file, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I don't think my monitor likes 800 x 600 @ 60 Hz.
I tried manually setting my desktop to 800 x 600 @ 60 Hz using nvidia-settings and my screen went black with a larger cursor.
If I set it to 800 x 600 @ AUTO Hz my monitor worked properly but BF2 didn't.

This is the output of "xranr"
Code:

Notice there is no "800 x 600 @ 60 Hz" entry.
I've googled other people with the same error I'm getting but they are able to resolve it by adding "800 x 600" to their xorg.conf file. This is a clip of mine, "800 x 600" is already there :

Any Ideas?
It looks like it time to try cedega. I have the CVS an will try to compile and install it, I'm not sure what version it is as everything says winex.
Sorry for the long winded post, I just though I'd share my experience trying this.

Probably, but I'm at 45 fps with max settings. As long as I can keep view distance at 100% I don't mind lowering settings.

If anyone can link me to a thread or recalls who was able to get BF2 to work, so I can PM them, that would be greatly appreciated. I have the 5 disk CD version so I will also need a virtual disk manager so I can mount all 5 disks at once as I am unable to eject the first CD during the install process.

Thanks.
Why would you need to mount all 5 disks at once?

If you're still having issues with disks, try mounting and unmounting them from a console while installing. That cleared up locked disc tray issues for me.

Because when I last tried to install BF2 about half a year ago using Ubuntu Edgy Eft, I was unable to eject the first CD when it asked me to insert the second CD (I didn't know about the command 'wine eject'). This time using the latest version of Ubuntu, Feisty Fawn, I was ably to eject the CD's without issue, no need for the command-line.
