AMD/ATI, waiting for the right moment to pounce? - Page 3

At more than seven times what it cost me to build my rig, thanks, but no thanks!

Besides, half the fun of owning a PC is building it yourself, unless you're a newb or win the lottery.

ATI and Nvidia are 6 and one half dozen of the other. No difference in the long run. Like someone else already said, the Next Big Thing is always right around the corner.

So the XTX is just a OC'd 1gb version?
Geez, it's like no matter how many benches and proof you show people, the nVidia fanboys are going to say nay to everything ATI/AMD does.

Shhhh your not supposed to say it out loud.

No it probably has a better cooling system or a die shrink as well.

AMD plans to sell it separate when they are ready (probably when 2900 xt 1gb version sales drop.) Even then i exspect the phrase "Thanks but no thanks." from you. Fan boys often use that phrase.

All ATI cards this gen have been beating nVidia competition cards in synthetic benchmarks. Guess what? They've all been losing in games too. Go for those 3Dmarks if you want, i'll take my FEAR and Sup Com scores any day.
If you are going by that my 5200+ and 7900 Gt on stocks beat thepope's Core 2 Duo E6300 overclocked to hell and back with his 8800 GTX. Lol what do you say to that?

Those GTX SLI scores are COMPLETE bull@#$! Plain and simple. All GTX SLI rigs i've ever seen score 15k+.
Odd... even at 15k the dual 2900 XT S.E. win. What was your point again?

This also makes me think that if ATi come back and beat out the compution if the AMD quads and duals can come out in the end and beat out intel.

1 stock 8800GTX scores around 10k...now with a super oc'ed C2Q it should be scoring around 11k+....something tells me that those scores aren't SLI scores. I'm not a "Fanboy" of eithier company. Also, 3dmark is really gay and UNACCURATE for Real World games, a Volt-Modded 8600gts with a oc'ed C2D at around 3.6GHZ can score around 6k+ yet if fails to perform like the X1950XT wich also scores 6k+ STOCK.

#1. ATI Radeon HD2900 XT- 9" Long, 512 Megs of GDDR3 memory. This is the card that’s getting all the bad press. Deservedly so? Possibly. Suffice to say it’s not the high end product that Falcon Northwest’s clients would be most interested in.

#2. ATI Radeon HD2900 XT- 12" Long, 1024 Megs of GDDR4 memory. Huh? You probably would’ve noticed the world’s first GDDR4 based graphics card. Especially if it was a gigantic 12" monstrosity that would have a hard time fitting in most PCs, right? This card was only sampled to system builders, and to my knowledge none of them picked it up as a product. It’s too big, WAY too hot, has clearance issues - forget I brought it up.

#3. ATI Radeon HD2900 XT - 9" long, 1024 megs of GDDR4. This is what we’re talking about! Two of these are what walked all over the SLI’d NVIDIA 8800 GTX cards at PC Magazine. Ask for it by name. Wait, that won’t really help. Some places have called this the "XTX". While technically incorrect, I’ll go with it. Anything to differentiate the winning version from the losing. For now, this card will only be available from Falcon Northwest and a handful of other boutiques in new systems.

Option #3 is currently available on Newegg for about $500(OEM). According to Daily Tech they would have to be the third card because NONE of the system builders went with option #2.

Mine should be arriving tomorrow so I'll let everyone know.

Mine is coming hopefully by Monday next week, so I'll post some benchmarks too.
