Replacing my 4600+ with another AMD cpu?

Thread Starter
I have owned the AMD 64 X2 4600+ for a while and was satisfied with it untill I purchased an 8800 gts. I was told that my 4600+ cpu is bottlenecking my graphics card. Im really not sure what to do because i dont want to buy another motherboard. My current motherboard is a ABIT KN9 SLI AM2 nForce 570.

If you had my current specifications and wished to play games like crysis, what amd processor would best fit my needs and work in my motherboard?

Or is there another way to have my computer run fine with my 8800 gts?

thank you.

It probably isn't bottlenecking, the 4600 is fine.

Ihatethedukes has a good explanation of bottlenecking, you should read it.

Get that 4600 above or around 2.8ghz and there is no way it will be bottlenecking it

You'll be all set with it.

My friend with an 939 3800+ with all stock settings and a stock 8800GTS 320 can pull a little over 7,000 on 3dmark 06. I'm not sure what mine can do for stock, but 11,300 for a comparison, but that was at 3.8Ghz.

Thats more synthetic benchmarks though, in a real game, there will not be that much of a performance difference. You will be all set, don't worry about a bottle neck.

It shouldn't be bottlenecking even at stock 2.4. I have mine at 2.66ghz (I'm a novice ocer). The only thing holding the rig back is the screen, stuck at 60hz.

nah throwing more cash at it would be a waste for virtually zero performance gain. If you want to upgrade wait for the Phenom chips and see how they stack against Intel but a 4600+ will be fine for a little while yet
