Yeah, they don't require 8 pin, but it's a nice extra which I'd recommend. If fit doesn't fit into your budget on buying another power supply though, then I'd stick with what you have for now =P.

you don't need a new PSU for a single 2900 your power supply is great. i've talked to people that own that card and say there is zero performance difference between the 6-pin and 8-pin.
