Newbie looking for advice\help

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am a newbie and am looking for help and or advice. I have a Gigabyte 956P-DQ6 with an E6300, 2 x 1 GB DDR2-667 and an ATI X1950. Simply put I want to overclock the hell out of the processor. The Easytune software that came with the board will only give me 10%. Can someone tell me if I can get to 3GHz (as mentioned on other forums) and what bios setting I will need to set. Would you advice upgrading the memory etc.

K.

click the User CP link at the top of the window and fill out your system specs. that way they'll show up as your sig in all of your posts.

at first glance, i'd say your memory will be the limiting factor in your OC. you can OC your processor to 2331 MHz without overclocking your memory, but then you'll probably have to do trial and error. i don't see how you could 3GHz out of your processor with that memory.

yeah, that'll do. i have DDR2 800 memory and i achieved 3.0 on my processor without even trying. our 965 chipset loves to OC

i'm not sure what prices are like in Ireland, but check G.Skill if you can. they have high quality memory for great prices here in the States.

Raise the multiplyer.

However some boards will only get so high of an FSB (chipset limitation). I'm not sure about your board

The E6300 has a max multiplier of 7. Your voltages need some tweaking. I have the same ram you do, and I run 2.1v through it all day long. I think they come at 1.8v or 1.9v, so up by +.2 or +.3. Also, you could try manually setting your cpu vCore to something around 1.3, maybe 1.325, see if that helps any. Remember, once you've got a stable overclock, you can back down the voltage by a single notch each time until it's no longer stable.
