And you said you dont want to spend a fortune! That will be fast but I bet I could build a Q6600, DDR2-800, DVD-RW, 4xHDD (RAID0+1), 8800GTX and a 22" monitor for less $$ than that and OC it and it will be faster and play nicer (1680x1050) and have more and faster storage and backed up!

Please dont waste your money, Sorry if I sound annoyed, its just that every week we see people posting about crazy $5k builds with little to no knowledge.

Hey no worries...thats why i'm here to get advice and stop me from making stupid mistakes!

Could you give me a spec of that system mate!!! Like the one I have done above? That would be so cool, and I would be ever-so grateful!

And yes, 2900xt is the currently top of the line ATI card.

About the PSU, i really dont see the need for maybe more than 700-750W good psu. 1000W , really would be a waste.
Ok no raptors - any suggestions of alternatives?

Firstly, get a bigger monitor, at least a 22", Downgrade the Cpu to a Q6600, put some hard drives with plenty of storage space in RAID 0, Watercool the cpu, get an X-Fi soundcard wise, maybe an extremegamer, don't waste money on 4Gb of ram, you won't use it, 2 gb will be plenty. Downgrade the ultra to a GTX, as the ultra is just an overclocked GTX, So just overclock the GTX. I think 850 Watts should be enough, but when in doubt, use this: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp
Also, Don't bother with Blu-ray, not worth the price atm, and finally, an alternative to the raptor is a barracuda.

Also for £3000 you want a 19" monitor! Are you insane!
Get a 22" Samsung BW at least or a 24" monitor...

Get a gigabyte motherboard as well... the new P35 ones... they have support for DDR3 RAM and the one I'm getting is only about £90!

Also the raptor Hard Drive is a bit pointless I believe.. others will disagree but no point wasting money!

Another point... are you planning to get good / great speakers? If you are get the Z-5000's with that budget as well as a good soundcard - X-fi Extreme Music.

Also are you planning to overclock? If you aren't some of them parts aren't really needed.
Yeah most have said not to get the raptors

I am planning to overclock yes - but I dont want to watercool which seems to be coming more standard these days due to the beasty components.

I have had bad experience with gigabyte MB's in the past. I wont be building this system for about another teo to three months - will there be more choice then for the MB?

I have learnt my lesson on the monitor lol - no less than 22" now!

I find it funny how he says he doesn't want to spend a absolute fortune. From reading what he said directly after that. I guess he just wants to spend a reasnable fortune. Not a absolute one.
