Router to Router?

Thread Starter
I have a 4-port router that is connected to 4 comps for internet. Now i need to connect 2 more comps so I was wondering if I could buy another 4 port router and connect that to the other router (so 7 ports effectively)?

4+ ports router are really expensive so... and I wont be getting wireless because non of the desktops have wireless hardware.

thanks

Shouldn't be a problem using a router as just a hub, Just make sure your only running the DHCP on 1. if your looking at replacing with an 8-24 port. read up on switching units.

I wouldn't think two routers would be a problem.

But you could get wireless cards for the PCs.

Yeah, it should be fine, I've done it before with easy success. Just plug one router into another and you're good to go. Sometimes there are settings to configure, but with most routers they are set up as default to automatically work together in "Plug'n'Play" style.

You should be able to expand up to 256 computers I think, or something like that. More than enough for the average home network anyway .

I think 1 router and one switch would work just as well, and be a bit cheaper. The 8 port switch for my Folding farm only cost $12 on the Egg.

thanks, as long as it works

actually, I have a extra hub laying around (4-port) is it possible to use that with the router to setup 2 more comps? I am a networking newbie, I learned this stuff like 7 years ago and forgot everything
