Can I Bring Z-5500's to the Dorm

Thread Starter
Can I bring my z-5500's to the Dorm next year for college? Obviously I will have to keep the volume down, but will they take up too much space. I'd really like to bring them because they sound great and I could hook them up so easily with the optical out on the macbook pro.

Well, every dorm is different, you'll know what kind of space you'll have better than we would. But by speaker standards, they're hardly huge. I don't think you'll have an issue, especially if they allow you to wall-mount. If nothing else, throw the sub under a desk/bed or something so it does not take up it's won floor space.

How big is your room? Double, or single?

Sure, you can bring them, no one is stopping you. Just don't expect to have *fun* with them

Pshaw, that totally depends on your neighbors.
This past year I lived with two other guys and we had the following set up:
Living room
2 of these
2 of these
1 of these
and 1 of these

1st bedroom
Logitech Z-5500
Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2

2nd Bedroom

Klipsch Promedia Ultra

So seriously, 1 set of Z-5500's will be fine.
One day the people who lived above us were playing drums (badly) so we cranked up our living room set...we could clearly hear everything as if it were right next to us upstairs outside of their room.
And we only got in trouble...twice. And both times was because we were retaliating to the people who lived above us. As long as you know your particular dorm's quiet hours, crank your speakers as loud as you want, as long as you want.

I'm sure you'll find places to position the satelites easily enough, though be sure not to have them on loud too much as people get assignment deadlines at different dates. So long as you show some common sense and courtesy when you choose to have them on then I can't see there being a problem.
