Zalman 9500/ lack of retaining bracket for mobo

Hi all!

I just bought a Zalman 9500 off of Newegg for my 3.0E Prescott. The problem is, I believe i need the plastic bracket that comes on every motherboard for it to mount: I do not have it. When I first got a decent computer, just over 2 years ago, it was an IBM thinkcentre w/ a pentium 4 and a stock hs/f that worked pretty well, 2 heatpipes. Last year, i *upgraded* to an ASUS P4s800D-X mobo, which did come with the bracket, but my IBM hs/f was incompatible with it and I had to take it off and use the IBM Hs/f that came with my computer. Where that plastic bracket went afterwards only God knows.

I ran a quick google search of the part number for my IBM hs/f, and found no pictures. but I did find the official name of it, and this is it:

13N2950 - IBM - FAN SINK THINKCENTRE 8147/8482 XSERVER

Now back to the Zalman... I haven't looked at the instructions closely, and they don't seem to be the best, but I'm pretty sure I need that bracket. But is there any way I can mount the zalman without it? Or do i need that stupid 10 cent bracket?

later maybe i'll gut this thing and take pics of what I'm dealing with if need be.

The same problem I had when I installed my Zalmon! Do what I did. I went to a nearby computer store and bought one for like $2.00, and yes you need the bracket.

Oh, by the way welcome to OCN .
