does Tor do its job?

Thread Starter
So I've known about proxy servers for a while and mainly just played with them for fun. I did some research and found out that proxy servers really don't keep you that anonymous and a lot of peoples ips are given to the FBI, etc.. I've also read that some of them can make browsing the internet even more dangerous than just doing it regulary by being able to steal certain data from your network packets, etc..

I messed around with this program called Tor a while back that supposely creates a chain proxy in various places and each connection is supposely encrypted. My question is, how safe is Tor if these other proxies really aren't all that safe? Just to let people know, I am not planning on doing anything illegal, I am just curious of how this technology works also wanting to know if you can find more content from other countries through a proxy to that country that you can't find in american based sites, etc...? Thanks.

Tor does its job, but for me very slowly. It tries to jump you traffic through so many proxies that if just ONE doesn't log your info, the whole trail is lost.
