8800gts + antec neohe + PD805 overlock

Thread Starter
hi. i was interested in buying a standard 8800gts 320 and yes i know its a power hog. i also know that usually, my 500 watt antec NeoHE power supply should hack its power requirements. however, i have a pentium d 805 overclocked from 2.6 to 3.4 megahertz, with about 1.3 volts running into it. should my psu be able to cope with the new 8800gts? please answer right back because im planning to buy tomorrow.

and no, i dont have one of those volt or ammeter thingy majiggys.

it also has 4 hard drives in it, a dvd burner, 5 case fans. the motherboard is a asus p5w DH.

thanks

usually things like this duckieho comes in with his power calculations.

but you can always google a power consumption estimator for your computer, a pd doens't absorb that much power. and if you buy a system like yours in best buy the stock psu is around 300 watts. you added a few hdd's and a dvd burner, thats only a few watts, not even 75 watts, few case fans, almost no impact.

from my guess i would say you may be able to run the card, but barely with a minumum. i would say you may have some power issues down the line, but not directly, and you may have some power issues when gaming,

you should look into getting a new psu. providing too little power to components is bad, because they dont' operate within their operating limits.

someone will probably come in a disagree with me about the power supply, saying you can get away with it, but in order to avoid problems, i would upgrade.
