Real World DX10 Performance: It Ain't Pretty - Page 11

Wow, cant believe I read all 10 pages! lol This whole thing is a non issue for me.... I only play simulations. A genre that is quickly being left in the dust by the FPS and mindless console games. I am always GENERATIONS behind in my rigs and I really don't care because the games that come out these days don't even interest me. Until Fighter Ops comes out (At least a year away still) I'm only going to upgrade RAM and HD, THEN maybe I'll think about going to 8800.
Just my $0.02

Why would anyone in their right minds go out and spend $600 for a graphics card that can only get 30FPS, when in reality games should be around 60FPS for a quality gameplay experience. I have seen the videos and comparisons between DX9 and DX10 and I'm not at all impressed by what I have seen. I'll stick with my X1900 card and run games at a comfortable 45-60FPS instead of spending the $2,500 to upgrade to parts that will be middle of the road once Christmas roles around. The fourth quarter of 2007 or first quarter of 2008 should be when the second generation DX10 cards come out + the second generation quad core processors...this is what I'm waiting on.
This is a very wise road to take.

When Microsoft came out with new DX10 API guess what developers have to do - GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND START LEARNING HOW TO PROGRAM/MODEL WITH THE NEW STUFF ALL OVER AGAIN. That explains everything about Dx10 is non-impressive and so-slow now.

Exactly.

I love how everyone in this thread is assuming DX10 is a failure from a couple poorly coded games.

Wait for a properly coded title... think HL2 people!

they may well have called the 8800GTS the ultimate DX9 card it does better with dx9 than dx10

The whole overclock.net community seems to be full of ignorant people, who take any information they see and believe it. May it be fanboys fighting over Nvidia and ATI, or Intel and AMD. Even people fighting over products made by the same company they support, to try and justify their reasons for buying--or not buying--what they did.

I mean seriously, wait until actual benchmarks are released by multiple DX10(non-port) games before you judge. Also, saying that people wasted $600 on graphics cards is outright wrong. Some people(like me), didn't pay $600 for a 8800GTX. Some people were in different situations. Not everyone upgraded, some people bought their first gaming system with DX10 cards, paying probably the same amount you did back then for your current system. There are numerous reasons why people bought DX10 cards, so don't bash them because they had the money to buy what they wanted/needed.

When DX9 owners upgrade in the next gen DX10 cards, the current DX10 card owners will probably wait until the NEXT batch(or a few). Its just a cycle, get over it

Either way DX10 goes(good or bad) in the future, I'll be happy with my card. It's more joyful to appreciate what you have, then wishing you had something else. Technology is always advancing. If you keep waiting around for the RIGHT time to buy, you spend more time worrying than enjoying.

Regardless of what card you have, you should hope DX10 is amazing! It means more amazing games in the future, and the advancement of technology!

/boredom induced rant.

Well if its low end now, you can't expect it to be great even further down the line. You will still be able to play DX10 games at least, just not on all high settings. You're expecting all DX10 games to have horrible coding, just hope for the best
