Noob x1650 Crossfire question

Thread Starter
Here is the Card i am using ATM

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102084

My question is this:

Can i get another one of this card and put it in Crossfire with my existing one even though the card specs. mentions NOTHING about being crossfire ready/compatible?

If so, would the performance of 2 x1650's be worth an extra 70 bucks? I know the card is somewhat low end, but, i just graduated High School and started college so money is TIGHT

All input is greatly appreciated.

This card is Crossfire compatible; from a performance point of view get a more powerful card is better than two lousy cards. Then you don't need to bother 'bout the heat & the power connectors management.

You can get:-

SAPPHIRE Radeon X1950PRO 256MB HDCP Video Card for $136.99
or
eVGA GeForce 7900GS 256MB KO Video Card is for $124.99

I don't think you can, it might work if you had an external crossfire dongle, but this one doesn't. It has no crossfire "golden finger" for an internal connection. So I don't think it would work.

If it were to work, the speed increase would be noticable, not massive, but for $70 or less go for it.

Found this over on the Crossfire FAQ page on ATI's site.

Quote:
Radeon X1950 Pro and X1650 XT cards use an all new, high-bandwidth internal CrossFire Interconnect for two way communication.

Certain CrossFire Ready cards do not require an external connector, just a compatible second card. CrossFire mode is then enabled via software and the cards communicate over the high speed PCI Express® bus on the motherboard.

You'd be much better off just getting one decent card than two of those..I'm pretty sure a single 7600GT is faster than that in crossfire, go for a 7900gs or any equivalent..I bought my x1900gt for $105 at zipzoomfly
