anyway, I just want to know how many Amps would be optimal for my sig rig on the 12V rail. After many ppl respond i will tell you what i have now, tis a bit scary but for some reason its held my E6400 at 3.6GHz and 1.45VCore 24/7!!! its on ALL the time; and the rest of my rig.
anyway, for the duration of this my PSU will be hidden for prejudiced reasons
after 15 people respond with recommended Amp rating on the 12V then i will reveal the thing that is powering it fine for now...
That 7600GT doesn't need a lot of amps and those C2D are energy efficient so yeah probably about 26 to 32 amp would be good if you plan to keep your graphic card forever.
Go with 35-40 amps for upgradeabilty and (so) if you get new rig/ high-draw card you will not have to upgrade again.
Otherwise I agree with EVERY post above
i agree as well. dont fall for the cheap prices. get a good psu with about 40a. my corsair hx520 cost me $105 w/ tax and shipping. got it in less than 24hrs. and definitely worth it if you are looking to upgrade.
And once it fails on you, I'll just sit and laugh.
used it for 6 months on this rig, 3 months in my old rig which was power-hungry:
old rig:
2xxW TEC undervolted and Watercooling
A64 3800+ at >100W power consumption (2.8GHz) i think it was around 150 but not sure so i edited
7600gt overclocked
2 hard drives dvd+-rw
used to have 13 fans (most low power 80mm but still)
Bare minimum and optimal are two different things dude... calm down, quit being ignorant and bragging about being cheap on one of the most important pieces of your PC... :/

I am not ignorant when it comes to computer power supplies. I know exactly how they work, what they consist of and know basic electricity (first year physics) and magnetism theory...
I am just saying its much more than I expected, at 100% load most of the day folding its using quite a bit of power but it only says 22A on 12V?? thats confusing...maybe thats all i really need then
Get the new seasonic S12 II 380w, it'll run that without breaking a sweat. Even the older 430w twin can handle the 8800GTS plus a pretty loaded system (see the other system in my profile).
i love my enermax 460w its been put thru alot and still running like a champ at one time i had 8 hds in my pc 2 dvdrw a geforce 6800. And 4 80m fans 1 120m fan a zalman 9500 led and 2 chipset coolers. And a nv silencer 5 on the video card. And my cpu overclocked to 4500 mhz and gpu overclocked.
