So IS sli worth it? *test results*

Thread Starter
Since I was off today and bored out the wazoo! I decided to go ahead and to conduct some tests with overclocks and SLI. I just wanted to know for myself IF SLI and overclocking was really worth the trouble!

I done some testing using stock settings with mixed overclocks of cpu only, gpu only, and cpu & gpu overclocks. Anyways I'll let you guys come to the conclusion if these #'s are justifiable for SLI and overclocking. However, to me, the jump from stock overclock cpu and single gpu its quite noticable.

Furthermore, I will let the numbers do the talking. All Overclock tests were done utilizing 3.7ghz e6420 and 620/1000 8800gts 320mb.

I conclude with these results:

Results variation from 8369 to 15744 between stock clocks with a single gpu to overclocked cpu and sli gpu, but at stock cpu clocks its apparent there is a major Bottleneck for the sli gpu's. Not exactly double the score, but IMHO a great increase! Of course I may be a tad bias =o). Obviously, Overclocking both the cpu and gpu, and incorporating SLI has more than just a placebo effect! I'll let you guys interpret your own conclusion, but feel free to share!

now you just need some real world benchmarks

Synthetic benchmarks are great and all but the biggest problem/complaint with SLI is the so-so performance it provides with some games.

If you're into benching, then you'll definitely get your money's worth.

Also going SLI or not depends on the resolution you game at as well.

True, but synthetic benches do offer a more controlled enviroment. Granted that real world results may be and probably would be a tad different, I feel that a controlled lab enviroment can show results if utilizing the same parameters for all tests.

Did you have PCI-e x16 on both channels or when you went into SLI is it 8x each channel. I know this is important, but I did not know how much difference it would make. Maybe a revisit with a test between 16x and 8x PXI-e slots?
