SERVER question - Page 2

The upload speed of your connection is going to be the sticking point. Almost every modern home connection has a much better download speed than a T1. However, a T1 can upload at the same speed. According to some of our recent bandwith tests, some members have an outrageous download speed with horrid upload. So keep the upload speed in mind when choosing an ISP. You should also be aware that almost NO consumer ISP will knowingly allow a server to be hosted. If they notice an unusal spike in usage, they can terminate your service.

No way dude. For a 64man BF2 server you need one hefty setup. A 3600 X2 or 3.2ghz P4 would crawl. 1GB of RAM is not even enough to play the game properly.

The OCN BF2 server is 32man and it's hardware is as follows:

Dual Quadcore 1.6(5310)
4GB RAM
1 x 146GB 15k rpm SAS

Obviously quite overkill but it hosts a few servers. There are about 2 32man servers per box.

For a 64man server go with server parts, not desktop. Dual dualcores with 2-4GB of RAM and either a raptor, RAID or SCSI. Take my word for it.

Also note that you CANNOT run a ranked server yourself.

I took my bare minimum specs from Planet Battlefield. I probably should have better emphasized the minimum.

The reminder about ranked servers is very good though, that's an important note.

Yeah I didn't mean that it wouldn't work. It'd be usable but not very enjoyable. 64 slots is a lot. That's quite the demand for no lag.

I'd say a more reasonable minimum is an allendale with 2GB of DDR2. It would be cheap and semi-good.

It's in EA's TOS. Though it limits some people, it ensures that ranked servers are on quality connections with good hardware.

hmm I said 25mbps (if it as a home connection) because I figured that the upload speed would scale with that speed

Also if CHIPP mentioned the minimumes I would recommened at lease 4gb of RAM and a q6600

The config I had before was minimal too but I didnt put that SORRY
