Case Fan Problem

Thread Starter
Heres the problem... i have a coolermaster 120mm blue LED silent fan (i know not the best choice with a measly 39.77CFM but lets leave that aside for the time being). I connected it to my Asus p5b-e mobo in one of the two chassis fan connectors on the mobo. Once i had i plugged in i checked BIOS to see if it was working fine, only to find the fan running at around 750rpm (when the rated rpm is 1200!). I checked speedfan and it confimed it... Does anyone have any idea why and if i can fix it?

do you have the option to plug it into a 4 pin molex? If so try it, the board may not provide enough power to run it at 1200 possibly.

Would manufacturiung website for mobo (Asus) tell me whether or not it could provide enough power... i have a powerful enough PS for sure (Corsair 620W HX-62F)

In answer to your question, it is only a 3 pin molex... that might be the problem

get into your bios and find sytem monitor section and manually adjust the fan speed to 100%. This would do it. If you directly connected it to MOBO it is generally in a variable speed mode. Higher the temps get, faster it spins yet you could override this by doing what I just explained. If you can not do it in this way or your bios would not let you do it this way, the only solution would be to hook it up to 4 pin connector which will provide 100% of the speed. If you try the proposed 4 pin solution and if the problem is still present, try giving more power to the fan.

currucucu may have hit that nail dead-center on the head.

You could also verify that you are not running PC Probe (or similar utility) in a mode that limits the fans...
