FTR, if im going to be getting suggestions here, i already have the antec 900 case (good deal at $90) and the 4gb of RAM (another good deal at $140-$185, depending on if i get both rebates)...although it isnt too late to RMA the memory (bought thru newegg)

I realized something this morning, with that money, i could buy a ps3, an xbox 360, a wii, a decent hdtv, and a whole bundle of games.

Could somebody PLEASE tell me that it's that much worth it to build a mid-range PC over just going for cheaper consoles??
Go with a dual core, scrap the SLI motherboard, change the 8800GTX to an 8800GTS 640, drop the 4gb of ram down to 2gb and stay with Win XP. That will save you a ton and will perform well in any game in the foreseeable future. By the time it won't, a much better setup than what you're building will cost much less.

ok you can build a decent system for around 926. sure you can change some parts in and out here and there. but i didn't add the cpu, add about 160 for the e6600 cpu.

then you can get this samsung 42 inch tv for aroud 1100, total goes little over 2000, but if you save money on buying like ram when its on sale and switch components in and out you can get a better deal. yes the tv is only 720p but it is only 42 inch, but the contrast ratio is 15,000:1 so its much better than those 10,000:1

yep instead of the 160 for the e6600 if you pay a little more you can get the q6600, but if you're sure you're going to build this thing,

buy components when they're on sale, for instance that ram is only 75 bucks, (sure its not as good as the crucial ram) but do you need it? if you get that G0 stepping q6600 i would go with the crucial ram to get a better OC.

anyways the point here is get things when they're on sale, you don't have to buy everything at once.

trust me i understand that, i already have the RAM, i bought it when it was on sale for a week ago for $70 for a 2gb kit (ill see if i can get a rebate on the 2nd kit tho, otherwise its still a steal for 4gb)

and the antec 900 case i bought at fry's for $89.99 before they realize everybody else is selling it for $110+

good deals i got:
ram total for 4 gb was like 150 -> but that was before these major price cuts
case: free
psu: 40
arctic cooling: 22
cpu: 180
