Biostar 965PT for a first timer?

I'm building a rig for a friend. And thanks to you guys I'm catching some good deal.

Now what I would like to know is. Would this board be fine for my friend. He's going C2d, MAYBE a Raid-0 setup some G.skill and a 7600gt.

Is there anything I should know about this board? Problems? Non-compatibility with the components I plan on using?

Also how does it overclock? I have read some reviews on it and didn't look to bad.

Thanks

For $10 more, I would go with the DS3.

I don't know how well RAID works on this motherboard, but this board is a hell of a overclocker.

I've reached 500FSB on my DS3 rev. 3.3 board. (+0.2 MCH Voltage)

I was looking into the Ds3, looks to be a champ but the budget kinda takes over

Thanks-- and the more info I can get on this board the better

Some of the really hardcore guys put the 965PT to the test and got some crazy OCs, we'll over 2000 MHz FSB if I remember correctly (do a search, it's posted around here somewhere). While you're not going to get those kinds of results without extreme cooling, it is a solid board for a very reasonable price, especially what you're getting it for used. While I can't offer you any specific insights on that board since I've not personally used one, I did want to share that many people achieved nice OCs with it.

The biostar is a great board for the price but does not have raid. It has the ich8 southbridge which does not support raid.

The DS3 does but the biostar should oc just as good as the ds3 if not better depending on how good a one you get.

There is a easy vdimm mod you can do heck I could send you my old vdimm mod that you could use if you want (if I can find it)

If you get it start a thread I can help you or your friend oc it. I had two of them at one point and did a bunch of ocing with it

Yeah, the reviews I read were about a 8 months to a year old and still looked good.
I'll probably have a Lapped Big typhoon on it. It looks to be killer for what I need it for. After all, my friend is complete noob to all this and I would be doing most/All the work.

Ok the Raid-0 option is out the door.-- Didn't do my homework yet

I'm interested in the vdimm mod. I know nothing about it but I'm a fast learner
I'll start a thread when and if I receive the board of course

Thanks for the good info guys, I'll more then likely pick this board up from Sora1421

See ya soon
