Help complete my new computer!

Help me choose a motherboard, memory, and a new processor to work well with the products I just bought. I'd like to keep it cheap if possible... $345 budget for the time being.... I know I wont be able to get all three with that budget but how about just a motherboard and memory to fit that price range for the time being? Or even a harddrive

These were the following Items I bought

SteelPad 5L 20030 Mouse Pad - Retail :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817114706

EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071

APEVIA X-CRUISER-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144151

APEVIA ATX-AS680W-BL ATX12V / EPS12V 680W Power Supply - Retail :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148022

SteelPad SteelKeys 6G US Black USB + PS/2 Standard Keyboard - OEM :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823703001

--- with that all said.. i need a motherboard, memory, and new processor as mentioned above. Hard drive optional, I may just use the one in my current system.

Looking for an Intel Processor. Core Duo? I'm not the smartest when it comes to this, but I like to use my computer mostly for gaming

Good morning! Welcome to Overclock dot net!

None of the links you have provided works.

$345 for a moterhboard, CPU, and hard drive is possible. Though, do you think you can hold off on the RAM?

Hard Drive : Seagate 250GB SATA 16MB Cache
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3
Core 2 Duo: E6320
________
Total Price: $345.48

These two RAMS are ones of the cheap and best RAMs that many would recommend you.
G.SKill DDR2 800 HZ
Ballistix

Currently, both of the RAMS are at the same price. Last week, the Ballistix was cheaper. Why I went with the hard drive in your combo over the RAM is because it fits your $345 budget. But, look into one of the two RAMs I have linked you.

Also, if you would like to know everything about overclocking, you have come to the right place!

The DS3 only have 1 IDE port. So, I hope that will not interfere with anything.

CPU + Motherboard + RAM = $405.48

You may want to look into the G15 Keyboard. It's one of the best keyboards!

I don't know how well that PSU you have chosen will run.

I would definatley drop teh HDD for now and use your current, therefore you can have your rig running istead of it waiting on the RAM

Let me be the first to tell you, I'm a complete noob TaiDinh... I have no Idea what SATA or Raid is going to do or the IDE ports you mention. I consider myself to have average computer knowledge but when it comes to speed, overclocking sata and raid I dont even know if it's an important feature to have...

aside from that I like the ram....

is the CPU an increase from my current one?? Intel 2.8 P4 HyperThread

P4 to a C2D... The improvement is a jaw drop.

This is IDE. The DS3 only have 1 IDE for a DVD/CD drive or a hard drive. There is a smaller one, but that's for floppy drive.

This is SATA. Modern boards and in the future will use this over the IDEs.

Yeah. Thanks very much for the effort your putting into helping me better understand this and complete my new rig. My HDD right now uses that IDE cord I believe but it also came with SATA or Raid which I never set up. I also have a CD-ROM R/W drive x16 combo. so i will be using that too if it is any help in directing me towards the right motherboard

I guess I can get the best bang for my buck and just get 2 of the 3 items I need.. as far as RAM / Motherboard / CPU goes. SO maybe I'll just get a CPU and RAM now..... and then save for a week or two wait for a paycheck and then get the motherboard.

RAID is a term where you use to hard drive together at once, I have no knowledge on that.

Just make sure that both of your DVD/CD and hard drive doesn't use IDE, because the DS3 only have one port for just one of them.

I've yet to see a hard drive with both IDE and SATA ports together.
