You dont HAVE to, but you will lose a lot of storage space , because the raid array will reduce it down to the maximum amount of space of the smaller sized drive.

Eg : if you have a 400 and a 320 , you will only get 320 as storage. And the 80 gb is lost. So , that way, yes, you need to have identically sized drives.
