Quick question regarding OC'ing an AMD NC3400+ - Page 3

I have heard different things too but for the most part the general rule is to stay under 50C. 70C is REALLY getting up there. AMD says the max for that chip is 70C so you'd better be careful. With my system running at full tilt 2.7GHz and an OCed 6800gt my cpu never goes over 45. Look into some aftermarket cooling for that thing or reseat the cooling you currently have.

As I said before, the cooling fan is a zalman but no idea to what model. So the stock cooling went bye-bye.
However, yesterday I noticed my CPU was idle @ ~50 degrees. Under load it hit just over that. I backed the OC down to stock speed/voltage and the same thing. I took the HS and CPU out of the case and cleaned both to a shine and re-applied AS, smoothed it out to perfection (in my eyes anyways! lol) and made sure everything was in snug.
The outcome? Same temps... what the hell is going on? I'm wondering if that OC screwed the heat sensor up or something because I can't see the chip staying within a 2-3 degree range idle and under full load.
I checked the fan(s) in the case and everything is running at optimal speeds. C&Q enabled/disabled, makes no difference.
Quirky little chip!

Actually, even a 55c max for that chip would be safe when OCing.
BTW, please fill in your system specs via the USER CP link at the top of the page, it helps us help you.

Was going to, but this isn't my main rig and even my main is being replaced as soon as my inheritance check clears! Speaking of which, I should start a thread for that. I'm planning on a $5000 (US) budget for the next PC. I want something that tears through anything that's thrown at it!

Eh, maybe I'll fill this one in for now. I still think the temp sens is screwy right now. idles mid-50's stock and OC'd. staying mid-50's whether the room is at 60 or 80. Doesn't seem to change under load now.

Ok... I think I definitely broke something! lol.
Stock speed and voltage idles 53c-55c. Under load 58c-59c.
OC'd to 2.5Ghz and stock voltage ='s same as above.
OC'd to 2.6Ghz and voltage .25 over stock ='s idle 50c-52c. Under load 55c-60c.
Odd thing is these temps are the same when the room is @ 80c or with the AC on @ 60c.

I already cleaned the cpu and HS, reseated CPU and reapp'd the thermal paste. Fan speed is normal. Not sure what happened. Damaged the heat sensor maybe?

Ugh, my first AMD OC and I cooked my chip! lol. Oh well, we live, we learn.
