newb question about OC e6600

Thread Starter
i am building a budge system as always i try not to spend over 600 dollars at a time
i have a e6600 i never overclocked all the years i built computers but i hear great things about the e6600 so decide to give it a try here is the set up then i have two questions
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
c2d e6600
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V
ocz pc2 6400 timing 5-5-5-12
2 evga 7600gt (old parts)
a full tower harddrive floppy dvd burner all that
? Now for my questions:
0. what voltage is safe for the e6600? do i need to increase the voltage beyond the normal tolerance of 1.35 to overclock it to 3.2Ghz? there seems to be no way of calculating it.
1. is my ram timing too high to overclock the cpu as follow 400fSb * 8 multiplier with the ram at 400*2 mhz I am asking b/c most posts i see use 4-4-4-12 ram which i did not buy : (
2. I can't afford liquid cooling so im on air which heatsink is better zalman 9700 or Scythe "INFINITY" or maybe i can't oc it to 3.2 on air cooling
3. is AS5 so much better then the thermal grease that comes with the 60 dollar fan already?

as i said i never done this before so if there is something i overlooked please let me know
all feed back welcome

0. 1.4v is the average safezone for aircooling.
1. Timings don't have that huge of an impact.
2. About the same. I'd say go with the Scythe.
3. A little yes. OCZ puts out some thermal paste better than AS5 now.

You can safely do 3.2ghz on air, yes. You can do it on nearly stock volts. I do it stable with 1.37 (in bios) vcore, and I have what's commonly referred to as one of the worst e6600's out.

i've done it with 1.325 V and that is a nice cool number. no heat issues.
