8600 GTS, or No?????

Thread Starter
I'm building a rig for a friend of mine.

C2D, 2 Gigs of RAM and Vista Home Premium.

He wants to be a gamer, but he isn't too hard core.

Will an 8600 GTS be a good buy for him?

not worth it I think, even though it is DX10 capable it doesnt have good performance (correct me if iam wrong) I believe the 8800GTS 320mb is a lot better

Well for the non hardcore gamer I think it would be fine, although what res would he be playing at? I have heard that a 8600gts is roughly the same in performance as a 7900gs and I think that would be fine plus it has dx10 so he could do that as well, but not as good as say a 8800gts.

If budget allows it go for the 8800 if not then I think the 8600gts will make do, plus I have heard that they are good overclockers.

"ok but who's to say that an 8800 is an option?? "

Thank you, I hate it when a oc.net member asks a valid question and some person posts a new more expensive solution that is out of the question.

I think the 8600GTS is a good balance between price/power for a moderate gamer, but if you can find cheaper options like a 79xx series or x19xx series then your friend could save some bucks.
