2900XT's in CF beat 1 8800Ultra! - Page 8

I want a terawatt psu.

Imagine the size of the Tesla coil I could build

If it takes two ATi HD 2900XT's in CrossFire to beat one nVidia 8800Ultra then that is normal.

An 8800Ultra costs $700
Two HD 2900XT's cost $800

So, they should perform about the same since they are about the same price.

I don't see how you can let $100 be "about the same price" unless your name is Bill Gates XD

Ultra are like ~600 dollars so its a 200 dollar difference. The power consumption difference is huge too

Well lets see, the ultra sucks up just under 200 while the xt sucks up 250ish each(ballpark on both numbers). So yes, two video cards will definitely take lots more wattage. In other news the grass is green, the sky is blue, and Paris Hilton is out clubbing.

This whole article is a portrait of the redundant. I'm sure two 8800GTS's will similarly beat one 8800 ultra, and require double the electricity while doing it. That's what we're all busy trading obnoxious words over. Seriously gents, why are we still talking about this?

When you start getting that high in price JUST for GPUs, price is negligible in my opinion.

An Ultra costs between $600 and $700, several of them much closer to $600, like this guy here.

Those 2 are just magic numbers...? I mean if you're talking like $7 dollars and $8 dollars I could really close 1 eye and pull that off for you...but $700 and $800 dollars ain't about the same...

Edit: Sozin, SLI does not support multiple monitors, not sure if Crossfire does, but I doubt it. CF is very similar to SLI now.
Pretty much any SLI-capable PSU can also run 2900xt's. The 8 pin power plus arent really needed... and 2900 and Ultra basically ask for the same amount of power. Either way, in the GPU world it is rare for CF/SLI, to EVER be cost effective.

If you plan on overclocking the 2900s, which are one of the pulls for the cards, since they seem to overclock well, you need the 8-pin.

8800 Ultra is less then 1/2 the power, more then 200 dollars cheaper, and runs with, and sometimes beats 2x 2900XTs at 1920x1200. Remind me why ATI's solution matters at all again?
