No overdrive

Thread Starter
Hello all. New to this type of thing so please bear with me as I stumble through all the tech lingo.
I bought a ATI 1650 XT 512mb card and can not enable the overdrive. The message that keeps coming up is "ATI Overdrive capabilities have not been properly initialized, please try again later." I tried the latest drivers from ATI
( 7.6) and even reverted back as far as 7.4. Also I did a clean install of Windows XP pro and the same thing happens. Is there something in my BIOS that I'm doing wrong? I've read on the net that PCI-E cards need there own power supply. My power supply has the connector but not the board. Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

use ATI Tray Tools from guru3d, its better than CCC, you'll be glad you did, since it will save you system resources.

PCI-E cards don't need their own power supply, but they DO need a power connector(s) attached to them.

By using ATI Tray tools and by researching what stable clocks others have achieved with the 1650xt, or by using the AUTO max GPU/MEM you can effectively OC and manage temps/artifacts at the same time.

If the board doesn't have the connector, then your card doesn't need extra power. Also, as already posted it's better to use ATI Tool (I prefer) or ATI Tray tools to overclock your card. Much finer tweaking and better testing utilities.

edit: i just checked Sapphire's X1650XT PCI-E card out. It doesn't have a power connector. The PCI-E slot is sufficient for it.
