I think I read somewhere that the oxidization looks like crap, but it doesn't really hurt temperatures, I don't know if thats true or not.

Oxidation can indeed degrade the thermal conductivity. Copper Oxide, unfortunately, is less conductive as Aluminum Oxide but you rarely see aluminum contact points in high end heat sinks. The good thing about copper is that it takes longer to oxidize; aluminum will oxidize a thin layer instantly upon contact with air to the depth of 50-100 molecule layers, thickening even further over time. It is so thin that it is virtually transparent (and it's naturally whitish or pale tan anyway). Copper oxide is slower to form but when it does form, it makes thicker layers.

The key, as previously noted... is to lap it, clean it up, and get it on your CPU as soon as possible.

Thread Starter
Alright, I put some AS5 on both the base of my SI-128 (it never oxidated, but it's been "bare" forever...but just to be on the safe side I did) and my C2D, and I'll sand with some 15 micron when I figure out what's wrong with my rig.
2 OP pls nerf
