Need a Bang-for-Buck HSF (E6600)

Thread Starter
I need a decent HSF for my E6600. I'll be using my Ultra-120 Extreme on my Q6600 and donating my E6600 to my family rig so it'll need a HSF. I don't need anything fancy, all I want is reliable 3.2GHz OC and call it a day. Here's what the build looks like so far.

Family Rig v2007

E6600 (have)
Asus P5B Deluxe (have)
2x1Gb DDR2 800 RAM (~$80 off newegg)
400W Forton PSU (have)
120-160Gb SATA HDD (~$50 off newegg)
CPU HSF = ???
GPU = ???

I was thinking of a Zalman but they're too damn expensive. What about a Ultra-120 (non-Extreme) for $45? Anything cheaper that'll do the job?

I just realized I need a PCI-e graphics card too... bah, I'll find something hopefully. Suggestions please.

By the way most of my posts are a reference to CPU mag July 2007 issue

Thermaltake V1 It has gotten amazing reviews from everywhere and it's actually better than the top of the line zalman cooler.

In there review the V1 actually did better than the ULtra one that you posted

The Tt Big Typoon

Asus Silent Knight

Tuniq Tower

The Zalman Coolers

In the end i would recommend you look at the Tt V1 and the Asus Silent knight I hope this helped

If the v1 is in your price range get it. Oh how I love that cooler...i would set it on a mantle and just look at it...nevermind its performance, which is great.

I'm goinig to say that the V1 is my favourite heatsink i've ever owned.

On eBay 'refurbdoc' is Zalman's way of selling off refurbished merchandise.

I bought a 9700 NT for $35 + shipping. It came shipped directly from Zalman.

if you can actually believe the Newegg reviews, this Masscool is the cheapest compatible cooler with consistently good reviews. $21. looks mighty small to me, but i'm sure most of our heatsinks are supremely oversized anyway. one of the reviewers claimed it kept his E6600 @ 3.55 @ 38C idle. sounds bogus to me, but you never know. i bet the size of most our heatsinks is just for marketing purposes anyway.
