Ok, not used to post myself beeing i usually can figure things out but this got me beaten. Let me tell you what i did. Decided to put my mobo and all into a new case that i've modded. Anyways when i was done i got a disk configuration error on boot up. Said there was a conflict between disks.

Well, i've got a s-ata wd as primary boot and 2 maxtor's on first IDE, also i've got 2 burners on secondary IDE.

This setup has been running fine in my old case, but now that i've taken it apart it refuses to boot with the IDE harddisks connected. When i remove them i can boot from my s-ata. Also checked boor priority and it was ok as well.

Checked my Bios and all was fine, double checked ma/sl settings and they all are ok as well. This is so annoying especially since i don't want to format my s-ata again.

Remove the IDE drives from the boot priority completely, if they're still there.
make you have the master/slave pins on the IDE drives set correctly

Try just booting with the SATA drive. If no go, just one of the IDE drives. No go? The other one. No go still, try swapping out cables. If still no go I'd point to a possible motherboard failure....... or I suppose an incredibly impossible failure of all 3 drives at the same time

Update: removed all IDE hd's and windows boots fine. Decided to buy another s-ata drive and move the ide drives to my secondary system. Now i've got another problem at hand. Beeing my s-ata was primary boot and ide's just for storage i managed to copy all data to my s-ata drive. Now it looks like windows is pretty borked cuz half my apps refuse to run, ati center refuses to even load and a whole lot of other faults, checked diskheath and all seems ok. Now comes the weird part. It is the same configuration i had before, my ide's were only for datastorage and now windows seems pretty borked. (sigh*) what ya guys think, need another fresh install?

Yes. Fresh install. When you move around files like that, Windows gets stupid and refuses to do things. Back up what you need to the spare S-ATA drive. Re-install Windows on the boot S-ATA drive, then move it all back over. Things get especially dumb when you move over Windows files and stuff. It's also best to re-install software and stuff from the disc's or install programs and then re-integrate your saved settings. It could screw up the registry if you simply stick em there.

What's going on (my guess) is that even though you think Windows has it's files on a particular disk, Windows actually writes a little record file on each disk...It is possible that you swapped the leads on the Disks...That is all I can think...and The MBR is all confused and missing pieces.

If possible install on the new SATA and simply lift your data from the messed up install on the other SATA. I would not have the old drive connected while installing...because the fragment of MBR left on theold drive may screw everything up again...

Plug it in afterwards and then lift off the data you need.

Agree that it is probably the mbr that is causing the problems. Just attached the ide that held the most important data when windows was running so i could back up all my files. Saw a great deal on a 500 Gb wd s-ata so i might get that one, though it blows a hole in the budget for my new rig...ah well at least i got all my
music back, thnx again for the help guys
