How do you increase resolution on external monitor?

Thread Starter
I have a MacBook Pro that I am currently running Windows Vista on and I can not seem to get the right resolution on my external display.

The monitor is a SyncMaster 226BW, and the best resolution I can get to run on it is 1024 x 768 which isn't even a wide screen resolution. How can I get my MacBook to display a resolution of 1680 x 1050 on the external monitor? I have already installed the monitor's drivers. Any ideas??

I dont think the MBP puts out at 1680x1050.

Try 1440x900

I can't get it to display anything higher than 1024x768

It will also display 1680x1050 on the OS X side

I installed them using BootCamp, so as far as I know it is right. Do you know of another place I can download display drivers for an 8600m GT from?

Since you are using windows, cant you select the monitor in the control panel and then change that particular monitor's resolution ??

Yea that sounds right! But is that max resolution of 1024X768 your lappie's native and top resolution then the previous really sounds like the way to fix. On XP (hope Vista same) “right click†empty part of screen (can also be done thru control panel) go to properties on drop down and “left clickâ€, tab all the way on right “settings†picture of two monitors 1 and 2, “left click†#2, in the “Display†bar is it now showing your monitor? If so can you slide the “Screen resolution†bar to anything higher than before hopefully exactly what you want. If not what happens, 8600 should have no problem w/res you want. If does not work describe what happens.

I may be wrong about this, but I don't think that drivers other than bootcamp drivers for Windows OSes might not properly work or might not function properly. I would stick to the Bootcamp drivers that Apple currently has. THey periodically update them.
