Dude why lap? I idle at 24-25 according to CoreTemp, and that's running at 3 GHz with 1.450V (1.410 after VDroop)
THis cooler doesn't need lapping. Mark my words: you're wasting your time. I'd ensure that your TIM is properly applied, and that you turned the HS about 30 degrees back and forth, while applying a small amount of pressure. I lapped my old HS and didn't see any big gains....maybe 1C. That HS was in worse shape than this one.

On the sub-ambient temps with air: I think that he meant 'ambient with load.'

Hrmm. I can not decide between the 9700 and the TT V1.

Don't mean to hijack post, but I'm thinking the Zalman 9700 > TT V1 and your post goes to show. I'm running a 4300 too.

before @ 2.6GHz stock volts

38-42 idle
55-65 orthos load

after @ 2.6 stock volts

30-34 idle
42-48 orthos load

now I just need to lap, and my cooling should be ready for a 3.0GHz+ overclock with a new mobo. It only hit 48 for a split second, average load temps are approx. 44.
Wow, those load temps are basically exactly what I had when I went from a Zalman 9500 to a Thermalright Ultra 120.

Weirdly, mine idles at 18-19 C. And 35-36 C full load.

Well, I'm gonna have to repost temp results again as getting a reliable temp reading from any app has been a headache and a half. I was told by many to trust Speedfan with my e4300, but I'm thinking that 27-28 C idle temps are impossible when case ambients are 30 C plus. SO back to trusting Coretemp and TAT and they are saying 40-42 C idle and 55-57 C load at the moment. I definetly need to lap, and no, I'm not lapping the cooler as it already is obviously, it's the e4300 that needs lapping.

Agreed. At 29C ambient, my PenD is idling at 53-54C.
