Please Help Using ATitools and 8800gtx

Thread Starter
I've read tons of forums and guides on the internet about overclocking your VGA. And I am just confused on one little part. When using AtiTools, do you up the core by say 5-10mhz then scan and then do the memory 5-10mhz and scan again and keep going back and forth like that? Or do you do them at the same time? Thanks for all the help!

I did mine 10-20MHz core jumps then I scanned for artifacts for 5 minutes then after I found the highest stable OC I started on the memory

do what coltsrock says accept for when you start to see artifacts, back it down by 1Mhz at a time.

One thing to remember, the G80 overclocks in frequency steps.
This means if Atitool is showing 650 for core, it's really at 648.
The memory freq has a greater difference, D/L Rivatuner and watch the Hardware monitoring graph while you adjust the freqs with Atitool.
I think the mem freq uses 25mhz steps, not sure though.

The only thing that had me weary was on benchmarkreviews.com they said:

"It is recommended that each clock be adjusted in small increments one after the other. Do not find the maximum RAM clock and then set out to find the best GPU clock; this will give skewed results at either end. "

Here is the link for anyone that wants to check out the guide to overclocking using ATItool. So any suggestions or if that is total BS about doing one then the other?

5-10Mhz is fine on the core, but the mem freq will not increase until you've reached the next freq step.

that makes sense to me. the memory is right next to the GPU, so when one gets hot, it's bound to transfer some of the heat to the other. the best real-world simulation would be to OC and GPU and memory at the same time.

Well the mem freq is really crazy, there used to be a chart floating around.
I was just messing with mine and it takes anywhere from an 8mhz to 18mhz adjustment in Atitool for the actual speed to change.

grunion is right, btw. if you raise the slider by 10 MHz, the actual speed might only go up 8, depending at where you are on the scale. i just think it's a good idea to OC your memory while your GPU is already overclocked. don't OC one and then OC the other was all i was saying.
