Theres no crappy X-fi really. the only main difference is the Xram. The XRAM is one of the biggest gimmicks around and is supported by literally a handful of apps that I could count on one hand...theres no point to it really. The X-FI Extreme music was the best buy until they stopped making it and made the gamer.

Aren't the bottom cards (the XtremeAudio for example) low-profile?

Well the Exrememusic is better than the Extreme audio from what ive heard. However overall its not going to be a killer difference.

The x-fi extreme audio uses a weaker processing chip.

Get a x-fi gamer at the very least.

Yes there is... the X-Fi XtremeAudio is the crappy X-fi. It actually doesn't contain the full X-fi components so it does mostly software processing.
Once again...

Well yeah I know theres a ''lesser'' X-fi out there. If you can get the extrememusic then go for it or the gamer.

That's just not true. The XtremeAudio IS different from the rest of the X-Fi lineup. It lacks hardware acceleration and has much lower grade DACs, further reducing audio quality. Also, the Elite Pro uses BETTER DACs than the rest of the lineup, not just more X-RAM.

Do not get the XtremeAudio. Get any of the higher end X-Fis and you'll be more than happy.
