Please Help, New to OC'ing!

Thread Starter
Alright, heres my story. I have a pretty nice setup that I paid a good chunk for. I am somewhat new in the oc scene, and im looking for advice on the right oc for my rig. It is currently at 220x5. It is running pretty stable right now but I have water cooling and I want to take advantage of it. Temps are in the low 40's under full load. I have a AMD x2 3800+ (Windsor) 90nm cpu, and 2GB of Corsair xms2 ddr2 ram. (pc6400, 4-4-4-12) (also set to ddr2 800mhz, 4-4-4-12) I as well have an asus a2n-sli deluxe motherboard with Tt,s bigwater cooling. I as well have an nvidia geforce 8800gts 320 card as well. I am looking for help on setting what you all think is reccomended for the best oc to this system. My amd cpus info is as follows:

Code Name:Windsor
Voltage: 1.248 (cpu-z display)
Socket AM2
Family:F
Model:B
Stepping:2
Ext. Stepping:F
Ext. Model: 4B
Revision:BH-F2
Core Speed: 2200.1MHZ (OC'ed from 2.0)
Multiplier:10x
Bus Speed:220.0MHZ
HT Link:880.0MHZ
FSB/DRAM:CPU/5
Memory Frequency: 440.0 MHZ, 4-4-4-12-2T

Any help would be appriciated and any suggestions would be the same, thank you for looking at my thread.

very nice setup and welcome here! You can start setting your HTT to 4X so your HT link always stays under 1000mhz...This will allow you to set your fsb to 250mhz and also remember to put your ram on maybe the 333mhz divider to stay under stock speed with your ram

So basically, try setting it to 250x4, setting memory to 4-4-4-12 ddr2 667?

almost...the 4-4-4-12 can stay like that...because you have 667mhz ram that would be your stock speed, but as soon as you overclock it will start going up because the divider is in ratio to your cpu speed. In you bios...look around in your ram settings and see if you can change your ram speed somewhere!

BTW...I had a Asus mobo once and it had a unlinked option under ram speed where you can just set the ram speed and it will stay on that speed, so if you have that option you cvan set it like that

250 x 4 HTT = 1000mhz HT link
250 x 10 cpu multi = 2500mhz cpu speed

Yeah, there is a setting for that. do you think i should increase voltages as well? and is there a possibility that i can oc it higher than 2.5ghz?

I think only CPU vcore would need more voltage...maybe 1.35 to 1.375...see what you need to get it stable

You can get alot higher then 2.5ghz...when passing 250fsb you can lower your HTT multi to 3 x and depending on your ram you can go untill you hit a wall

I just tried 250x4, ddr2 667 4-4-4-12, upped the cpu coltage to 1.375, and mem voltage to 2.2v (stock was 2.1) and vista BSOD'ed on loading. After that i tried 245x4, same memory settings, set cpu voltage to 1.400, set mem voltage back to 2.1 and vista started fine. im going to run prime95 now to see if its stable. any help from this would be appricated.
