6400 @ 2.4 and 8800GTX

is there a possible bottleneck in there?

I am noticing a drop in FPS in CS:S and WOW

Also CS:S suggests i use Trilinear Filtering and 4x MSAA but another system running a X1300 suggests 8x AF. why is this?

seriously mate, an 8800gtx and core 2 at 2.4 wont cause frate drops on css. My 8600gt an x2 run css perfectly at a contsant 60+ fps @ 1280x1024.

There probly is a slight bottleneck with that cpu but unless ur running at an insane resolutinon then i dont think itl b noticed.

take no notice of the recommended settings, just max it out.

EDIT: Also tho x1300 will be running in direct x 8/9.0 compared to direct x 9+ which you will be running.

it's possible your CPU is bottlenecking you. i've built two computers with E64x0's, but i put them both to 3.2 (which is a really easy OC, btw. i recommend you set it there anyway).

RE: CSS recommended settings... lol. i don't know, but you go ahead and max everything, regardless of what the game recommends. you'll get 100+ fps no matter where you go.

yeah i figured that. just can not understand why it recommended 8x AF for the other comp

Dont worry just max it. I think it will be because of the direct x thing i suggested.

Clock that E6400 to a minimum of 3.0ghz and you'll be fine.
