Asus Striker Extreme assembly questions

Thread Starter
I recently purchased a pile of parts for a new rig, that were slightly more inspirational than my AMD 4200+ that I assembled afew years back. I did not research them as much, and found a rather ... odd idea which I've been rolling around now. It's regarding the Asus Striker Extreme motherboard sitting in my living room at the moment.

I've been thinking for cooling on my new rig, to roll with the Swiftech H20-220 Ultra+, which consists of chip, GPU and northbridge blocks. As it stands right now, the cooling pipe assembly on the SE motherboard is excessive at best. I was pretty sure I might be able to remove the northbridge piping and cooling block to plant the extra watercooling block on to there. Looking at the barbs on the motherboard itself, as well as the connections on the piping, I'm getting the feeling this idea has been flushed down the toilet. While I've read the Northbridge gets excessively hot on this mobo, it also looks like with a fair amount of case circulation, the heatsinks can keep it under control.

Any hints/ideas on ways to plant the waterblock on the northbridge on this particular board? Or is it a uh ... "pipedream"?

Heh, the adhesive isn't the issue, it's the 10 pounds of heatsink currently attached to it.

It routes from the southbridge, swirls around the CPU, and then lands on the northbridge. http://i7.tinypic.com/4r7zair.jpg .. The heatsink I'm trying to remove circled with red/blue, and the uh parts that simply won't remove (or can't see me removing in good faith) in red only. Little more difficult (or scary when performing on an overpriced board) than just some thermal goo

well, it is all one piece, so you must have Mosfet, and south bridge coolers as well, in addition to the north bridge. if you don't then yo can immediately save money by exchanging it for the P5N32-E SLI, it is identical to the striker, minus some heatpiping, and some bells and whistles. this board has the noth/south bridge piping seperate, allowing you to only water cool the nother bridge, then cool a block of mosfets with something else.

Unless I am mistaken, the board has clips holding the piping on, small pliers should be sufficiant to hold the tabs in then all you have to do is push them up (ie towards the board when looking at the underside of the board)

I would definitely water cooling the NB and remove that horrible stock cooling system.

You are going to need the HR-09 to cool the PWMs though.

unfortunately if he pulls the heatsink, he has to spend a minimum of $60 to cool everything, $20 for each mosfet set, plus another $20 for the southerbridge cooler.

That is why the Striker Extreme is a waste of money.
