Italians Build Atomic Laser - Page 4

If this shows we can move matter at the speed of light it is verrryyy verrryyy important because we thought it wasn't possible. We thought only something as small as light would travel this fast. This could make space travel so much faster. Now we just need to shoot a 500 lb woman at the speed of light. Not physical data.

On topic: Cool. Too bad we're burning through media formats at the speed of light. We can't utilize HD-DVD or Blu-ray yet, so why bother?

I remember how awestruck I was when GTA:SA filled up the dual-layer DVD. When I see a PS3 Blu-ray game fill up an entire 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray disc, I'll **** my pants.
Maybe they would be in the title if they ever did anything
*I'm sure they might have done something... Just I've never heard of anything of the sort coming from france or canada...*

Ontopic

I thought this was a doomsday device of sorts when i read the title...

According to wikipedia the matter that atomic lasers shoot out does not reach the speed of light and can't.

Yup, its physically impossible for anything that has mass to go the speed of light... it would require infinite energy... the reason light can go that fast is that photons don't have mass... the big achievement here is creating a focused beam of matter, which is apparently tough because matter interacts with other matter so easily....
